Pomaireware Pig Salsa & Sauce Dish

Product Description

Approximate dimensions are 6.5" L x 4.5" W x 2.5" H. Handcrafted in Chile. Includes clay spoon.
Since the middle of the 19th century, Pomaire, Chile has been producing distinctive earthenware that is both functional and decorative. The artisans have preserved the tradition of working with clay using the same techniques that have been handed down from generation to generation.
Each piece they create is dried naturally, then smoothed and burnished with an agate stone before being fired. No glaze or varnish is used. Ovens work around the clock packed full of clay items. Each piece takes about 8 hours at high temperatures to dry to an iron-hard finish. As such, it has its own unique imperfections and markings which highlight the handcrafting and individuality and in no way affect performance.
It's difficult to dine anywhere in Chile without being served in a Pomaireware pot or bowl. They are tough as nails, distribute heat evenly and maintain the moisture of the food. All Pomaireware items are lead free, oven safe to 450° F, stove top safe (electric only with diffuser) and microwaveable.
The pig-shaped salsa dish is perfect for serving condiments, sauces, salsa, nuts, etc., or simply displaying as a unique and whimsical decorative accessory. A small brochure explaining the Pomaireware tradition and including a few recipes is included (a nice touch for gift recipients).
Note: Please be aware that these products are handmade and unique therefore there may be slight variations and imperfections in each individual product.
